Questions people ask
How is GST calculated on a price?
Multiply the price before GST by the rate. ₹1,000 at 18% carries ₹180 of GST, so the buyer pays ₹1,180.
How do I take GST out of a price that already includes it?
Multiply the price by 100 and divide by 100 plus the rate. ₹1,180 including 18% GST is a taxable value of ₹1,000 and ₹180 of GST. Taking 18% off ₹1,180 instead gives ₹212.40, which overstates the tax.
When is it CGST and SGST, and when is it IGST?
When the buyer is in the same state as you, the GST splits equally into CGST and SGST (UTGST in a union territory without a legislature): 18% becomes 9% + 9%. When the buyer is in another state, all of it is IGST.
What are the GST rates now?
Since GST 2.0 took effect on 22 September 2025, the slabs are 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%, plus 0.25% for rough diamonds and some stones and 3% for gold, silver and jewellery. The 12% and 28% slabs are gone.
